This is a particular favorite of mine and a monster when it comes to technique. This drawing took over two hundred hours of finger numbing strokes. The sky alone was two-thirds the battle. You need to look close, every stroke in the sky is diagonal, even the shading in the clouds. It's all about the challenge.
The Cape D'Or lighthouse: The first light, a square wooden tower, painted white, standing on a red wooden trestle, was built in 1922. This light was a typical small "pepper pot." The current keeper's bungalows were built in 1958/59, and the concrete lighthouse in 1965. Ernie Morris was the last keeper. The Cape D'Or lighthouse was automated and de-staffed in 1989. Today, one is the Lightkeeper's Kitchen and the other a Guesthouse. This is the only light station in Nova Scotia where you can stay in a keeper's house. Part of the Fundy Shore Ecotour. Creation turns me on. From a blank surface to the finished work of art, it's the process that feeds my soul. To me, art is a lifestyle, a compulsion and a passion.
