I've started a discussion in my group "Zoofari - Traditional Art Only" about artwork (and artists) that I think are amazing. But, I would like others to join in and post their choices too.. we can create a unique collection of wonderful art. This is the piece I chose to represent your awesome talent.. stop by, look around and maybe even join in.

I try to achieve depth by contrast, for example with "Please", I draw the background dark along the body section that is light and light where the body is in shadow. To enhance this feeling of depth, I also use contrasting colors, such as here a cold green stands out behind a warm tone brown and tans. Even when I use black, it is either a warm tone or cold depending on the subject, seldom jet black. Here I use a cool dark gray cross-hatched with a dark green.

Great work - especially the background! I work primarily in colored pencils and have to say backgrounds are my nemesis. If you have any tips on working backgrounds, I'd love to absorb your knowledge.

Artist's Description

A little red squirrel well experienced at begging for food. Once he knew he found a soft touch, he stayed around the base camp for a week. "Squirrel," as he was so ingeniously named by the artist, would arrive early for breakfast and knew when other meals were forthcoming, yet he never took food not offered (unlike some of his squirrel relatives, whom shall remain nameless). This little character was full of boundless energy and often scaled pant legs for a treat; quite the social climber.

About Brent Ander

Brent Ander

Creation turns me on. From a blank surface to the finished work of art, it's the process that feeds my soul. To me, art is a lifestyle, a compulsion and a passion. With a formal education in the arts spanning over eight years and an apprenticeship lasting two, I found myself addicted to the learning process. Now after more than forty years of practice, I still consider myself a perpetual student of art. In my opinion, to stop learning would be tantamount to artistic stagnancy. . . so, the exploration continues. My WEB Sites : Ander Expressions Fine Art & Ander Photography.
